“Who I am is who I choose to be.”
“I choose to live in a world of possibility”
Born in Ghana , my family and I moved to London when I was three. I acquired the fascination for space and light whilst at Clifton College Prep School in Bristol at age nine. I knew then, that this love affair with light and space would continue throughout my life. After my formative years I was able to experiment and develop my skills in optical and visual perception through Architecture both at degree and postgraduate level. It was during this period I made a break through in my Optical visual perception of light. Through the practice of Architecture I have created a unique way of capturing the journey of light through time and space.
My insight
Light as a subject matter had always interested me. Our interpretation of our world is shaped by it. What we see is how we define what is real. The light that we see is always in movement and has undergone a journey through time and space. This state of flux and movement is what fascinates me.
In a city as diverse as London there are a multitude of layers of light. Different types of light can be seen at night, illuminating structures, buildings and places of occupancy. All these different elements make up the illuminated city.
Drawing with light
Any light we see is travelling towards us, so whether the light from a distant star or the light from a distant structure a journey has already begun. This journey can be told through the eyes of a camera. It seems we can slow the elements of light through shutter speed and control the amount of light coming into the eye of the camera. The camera thus becomes a paintbrush for which I use light as a medium on a digital canvass. So I create these artworks through using the camera to draw with light trails. The various types of light sources determine the pattern and colour of what is drawn. These ornate and beautiful pieces tell a tale of light narrated by me.
What I like to share through my work
In a fast pace society it is easy to miss the beauties of life through our preoccupations of sustenance and existence. Each moment that we live can be magical, however fast or slow it may seem. I'd like to share through my work a depiction of the journey of light as mystical and beautiful, somewhat like our own.
My Thoughts
What is light if we can't see
What is joy if we don't feel
What is charity if we don't give
What is music if we can't hear
What is life if we don't live
Obey your passions for they are solely yours to do as you please
Chase your dreams for they are your reality, they are from you inner most self
And from no one else ... |
